Most workplace violence isn’t random. It’s predictable. It escalates. And it signals—long before the headlines.
After three decades on the front lines—prosecuting cases, leading tactical teams, and guiding institutions through high-risk transitions—I’ve learned that the most dangerous threat isn’t the one that erupts. It’s the one that’s ignored.
Ignored by outdated protocols. Ignored by siloed systems. Ignored by well-meaning leaders who were never trained to see what was coming.
We talk about safety. We train for emergencies. But we rarely ask:
The answer, too often, is no.
According to the World Health Organization, nearly 70% of adults will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime.¹ Gallup’s 2022 Global Workplace Report found stress levels at an all-time high.² And when institutions fail to respond with care, they risk a second injury: institutional betrayal—a term coined by psychologist Jennifer Freyd to describe the harm caused when trusted systems fail survivors.³
In response to these failures, I developed the P.R.E.V.A.I.L.™ framework: Proactive Risk Evaluation and Violence Assessment through Integrated Leadership.
It’s not a checklist. It’s a trauma-informed, legally sound, emotionally intelligent approach to threat mitigation and ethical leadership.
P.R.E.V.A.I.L.™ bridges the gap between prevention, litigation, and survivor advocacy. It equips leaders to recognize early indicators, respond with strategic clarity, and build cultures of trust before harm escalates.
I didn’t build it to brand a solution. I built it because the existing ones weren’t working.
The question isn’t whether your workplace will face risk. It’s whether your systems are built to meet it.
With clarity. With compassion. With foresight.
Because the cost of silence is too high. And the time to rethink is now.
